Bye Bye to an Old Friend

He was a  trusted friend for over 10 years.

Worked furiously to help me make mini's first birthday cake when we had no idea how to bake without eggs.  Helped us try countless cookie and recipes, letting us know which worked best.  Sat patiently while we worked on batches of frosting upon frosting, not caring that he was sticky and covered in cocoa powder everywhere.

He helped us with baby showers for friends and coworkers.  Helped mini eat healthy food when we discovered pumpkin protein bread, zucchini bread, and spinach muffins.  He brought warmth, comfort, tradition to every holiday, helping us with everything from hamentaschen to honey cake.  He was our secret weapon for the perfect apple pies at Thanksgiving, and homemade whipped cream.

It was because of him that oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for the doormen on Christmas and entertained children on playdates brilliantly for short bursts of time.

In short, he was always there when we needed him.

And then, suddenly......he was gone.  Just. Like. That.

The Cake That Took Two Months To Post

This is a follow up to a plea for help a while ago in this post. Egg-free chocolate cake for 20+ kids and their parents. Poker Chick is proud to say she has a success story for many of you. At least, in her definition, anyway.

Step 1: The cake

Step 2: The frosting

Step 3: Add third layer, frost, decorate and it actually looks like cake!

Thus ends the domestic series of this blog. Moving forward, local friends may now trade favors for baked goods. The rest of you can help us think of something more amusing to write about.

Behold, cake! And it was good!

This is too d*mn easy

The husband found this piece of news and it's definitely, as he put it, "blog-worthy". Now we all enjoy a good bridezilla story, here's another one where someone's just taken that concept of "your own special day" waaaaaay too far. Check out this Texas' bride wedding cake (left). Beyond ridiculous, this one's redonculous peeps. Poker Chick is wondering what the groom did first with that cake knife.*
